“I made the decision very early on that I never wanted to be a litigator. I wanted to solve problems and find solutions to issue… The next 13 Years exposed me to work across the African continent, transactions and practice area that were not present In Kenya at the time.”

Celebrating Female Lawyers who have taken up Challenge.

Counsel Mary Chege is a lawyer with over 20 years of experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors. She is a Certified PPP practitioner and trainer and holds a Master’s in Law degree. She is the founder of EMSI ASSOCIATES and got ranked by Chambers Global one year after setting up the practice. She has overcome several challenges on her rise to the top including making the tough decision to take time off from her career when she had children and setting up a legal practice in Kenya yet she had never practiced in Kenya post-admission. Counsel Chege advises young female lawyers to put in the time and the effort to do even the most mundane tasks in their area of interest, and do them excellently because that is what propels them far from mediocrity. In her own words, “Don’t get picked because you’re a woman and an affirmative action box needs to be ticked off – get picked because you’re the best at what you do. So, no shortcuts for the ladies no matter what the circumstances.”
